Action Plan
October 1st is Canada’s National Seniors Day. This year it is being marked by the Senior’s
Day of Action for Climate. Calgary is one of more than 50 cities and towns across our
entire country with Seniors holding events, happenings, awareness raising, and
generally shouting out—with a sense of urgency for more, and more effective, Climate
Action—from our federal, provincial and municipal leaders and businesses. We all agree
that LATER IS TOO LATE!

Join the Eco-Elders for Climate Action in celebrating this day with climate actions!

1. On the weekend, we had much to celebrate with the City Council, not only passing but strengthening the city's affordable housing strategy. Now, we need your help in not only communicating this win but also thanking all of your members who were involved. Here are some tools that can help you communicate this.

Announcement/Newsletter Blurb:

Affordable Housing Strategy Passed!

Over the past month, with our partners through the Calgary Alliance, we have worked together to ensure the City of Calgary's Affordable Housing Strategy is passed because we heard from you that this is one of the most important issues facing our communities.

On Saturday, September 16th, this strategy was passed. This will begin the process of freeing land and money to build 3,000 more non-market affordable housing each year. It will enable the housing market to build more affordable housing through zoning changes, and the city will use its resources to create more temporary housing to meet the immediate needs of families with no homes and much more.

Thank you to each of our members who wrote their city councillors, came to our rally and spoke before the city council - Together, our work will impact the lives of thousands of Calgarians struggling to afford a home.

Everyone needs rest and relaxation.

People need to rest.

When you engage in efforts to build a better world–or just a better neighbourhood–it can be exhausting. Throw in a pandemic, job tumult and more, it can pull away your energy and excitement, not only for the work together but in the efforts you take on with your community.
