Action Plan
October 1st is Canada’s National Seniors Day. This year it is being marked by the Senior’s
Day of Action for Climate. Calgary is one of more than 50 cities and towns across our
entire country with Seniors holding events, happenings, awareness raising, and
generally shouting out—with a sense of urgency for more, and more effective, Climate
Action—from our federal, provincial and municipal leaders and businesses. We all agree
that LATER IS TOO LATE!
Join the Eco-Elders for Climate Action in celebrating this day with climate actions!
Who We Are
Eco-Elders for Climate Action (EECA) is a Calgary-based and Alberta-focused group of
seniors deeply alarmed by the climate crisis and the collapsing world we are leaving for
our grandchildren. We seniors (one in four Canadians) have outsized political, economic
and social power. And we Vote! We have a major role to play AND we have motive,
commitment and opportunity. LATER IS TOO LATE!
Our Main Messages (Calgary)
We need to speed up the transition to renewable power and clean energy.
We need climate action that is broad-based and deep-rooted by joining with
youth, First Nations, and other equity-seeking populations.
We’re all in this together!
Will you join us- Tuesday, October 1 st , 11-2pm at City Hall Plaza?
To:
Learn about positive developments in renewable energy locally and globally
“Ask a Climate Scientist” any question you want
Get to know organizations working on renewable energy projects
Record a one-minute video- to tell others why you are engaged in climate action
Sign a pledge to work with other Seniors for Climate Action in small or big ways
Demonstrate your concern—so our leaders understand that Seniors care deeply,
want action now, and we Vote!
Be part of the lively action on Oct 1st
Have you ever wanted to be part of a Flash Mob? Even secretly? Well this may be
your golden opportunity.
We are recruiting Seniors (or aspiring Seniors) who want to have some fun participating
in a short, feisty collective dance as part of the event—we have a professional
choreographer who will teach us dance moves that will work for all levels of mobility, no
problem.
Please RSVP to [email protected] if interested in being part of the Flash Mob.
Training and Rehearsals will be 4 Fridays in September (6 th , 13 th , 20 th and 27 th ) 1-2pm.
Unitarian Church, 1703 1 st St. NW (corner of 16 th Ave and 1 st St NW)
If you cannot make all four dates, do not worry, we will make it work.
